One of Four Shopping Sources, in the Same Endpoint

Nearly every Shopping API on the market is Google-only. The Serpent Shopping API spreads across four engines — Google, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, and Brave — so you can compare what each surfaces for the same product query without juggling a different API per source.

Serpent's Shopping API returns Yahoo product listings as structured JSON. Yahoo is the default engine, so a plain call to /api/shopping returns Yahoo results without any extra parameters — switch to engine=google, engine=ddg, or engine=brave when you want a different engine.

Yahoo is the default. A bare call to /api/shopping?q=<query> returns Yahoo Shopping results — no engine parameter needed.

These calls will answer 404 until launch. The samples below show the request and response shape you will get when the endpoint opens.

Price, rating, and review count are returned when the underlying shopping source provides them.

Why multiple shopping engines matter

Google, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, and Brave are independent sources. The same query can surface different merchants, different prices, and different product availability in each. Querying all four gives you a broader, more representative view of the market — and lets you cross-check price movements instead of trusting a single source.

Because all four engines flow through the same endpoint with the same normalized fields, switching between them is a one-parameter change (engine=google, engine=yahoo, engine=ddg, or engine=brave).

Yahoo Shopping API Questions

The Yahoo Shopping API returns product listings as structured JSON with position, title, price (where available), merchant and store names, product URL, thumbnail, rating, and review count. Use num to request up to 20 products per call.

Yahoo is the default because it returns broad product coverage across many countries with well-structured card fields. You can switch to Google, DuckDuckGo, or Brave at any time by passing engine=google, engine=ddg, or engine=brave.

The Serpent Shopping API supports four engines — google, yahoo (default), ddg, and brave. Yahoo is one of them, using the card-style field shape (url, merchant, store, rating, reviews). Querying multiple engines gives you a broader view of the market for a product.

Nothing today: Shopping is not callable yet, so no call is billable. At launch, Shopping search is planned at $0.35 per 1,000 requests on the Default tier, $0.32 per 1,000 on Growth, and $0.25 per 1,000 on Scale. Credits never expire and there is no monthly subscription.

Both engines return the same normalized product fields through the same endpoint. Product availability, merchants, and prices differ between engines — querying both gives you a broader view of the market for a product.
